  Wellbeing is fundamental to our health and overall happiness, helping us to overcome difficulties both at work and at home. Working in the Early Years sector can be challenging at times and workload can play it’s part in this.

  The course will outline the projects that have run at Rowland Hill over the last 3 years that promote staff well-being. The executive headteacher and staff well being lead will share their journey and strategies they have used to support staff in a very busy nursery school. There will also be a set of take away electronic resources that form good practice promoted by the NHS, Mind and the DFE for practitioners to use back at their settings.

  This course covers the statutory requirement for education professionals meeting ‘robust 2-yearly training’ for those with a lead or designated professional role for safeguarding in schools. Having completed basic safeguarding training, this course equips professionals to perform their senior safeguarding function in schools and Early Years Settings.

  The course will cover latest legislation and procedures and statutory guidance policy development, multiagency working, referral processes, thresholds, risk assessments and management of safeguarding.

• Paediatric First Aid Training

  Outline:

  This Paediatric First Aid course is run over two days (12 hours) you will be required to attend both days.

  The course has been designed to meet the specifications as laid out in National Standard 1 of the Care Standards Act 2000.

  The certificate gained from this course is the equivalent of the Red Cross Paediatric First Aid Training, as recommended by OFSTED.

  Upon successful completion of the course each candidate will be awarded a certificate under the Health and Safety Regulations Act (First Aid) 1981 which will be valid for three years from the date of issue.

  Please note that the trainer includes videos and examples of real life medical and first aid scenarios as part of his training resources.

  You will be given the option to opt out of viewing these if you wish when on the course.

The types of support will vary depending on individual children’s needs. It is important that practitioners understand the varying levels of need within their classroom, as well as any barriers to learning children may face. Understanding this can help practitioners to utilise adaptive teaching practice to provide their children with the targeted support.

  How do we ensure children are included in the Early Years? These are practical visits to the three outstanding nursery schools to see inclusion in action. Participants will be given the opportunity to take part in a guided learning walk with one of the school’s SENCOs.

  During the learning walk participants can see adapted teaching in action considering how the learning environment provides inclusion for all. Strategies will be explained to participants in the context of the code of practice and the plan do review cycle.

  Outline:

  The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework places emphasis on welfare and safeguarding standards, stipulating that regular staff supervision is a statutory requirement. Regular supervision improves outcomes for all children including vulnerable children and therefore supports staff's well-being and performance.

  This course will explore what is involved in the supervision of staff, including aims, principles and different models. Participants will be able to share practice as well as hear about established policies and procedures of supervision in the nursery schools.

The sessions will support you not to replicate what you see but to engage in a facilitated discussion to consider how you can make positive changes that fits the context of your setting.

  • Provide an opportunity to share observations, photos and other evidence
  • Share assessments and reasoning
  • Facilitate dialogue and develop an agreement of accurate assessments for the developmental bands and levels

  Research shows that children learn best when they feel safe, secure and special and adults play a pivotal role to ensure this happens. Young children’s emotional well-being and their cognitive development is best supported when they feel well supported by known and trusted adults, who know and understand them. The aim of this workshop is to discuss how to plan for these early attachments and the importance of care routines. Practitioners will have the opportunity to consider meal and snack times, intimate care routines such as nappy changing and ensuring our environments are set up for rest and sleep.

  Outline:

  The blockplay session will seek to develop a deeper understanding for practitioners, of how blockplay supports children's learning, across all areas of the EYFS.

  The session will explore the place of blockplay in the history of play and share a case study demonstrating the impact of blockplay for a particular child.

  Practical opportunities will also be given for the delegates to experience using the blocks for themselves.

  By the end of the session, the delegates will have gained an insight into the stages of blockplay a child progresses through and how this links to stages of a child's development.

  Outline:

  It is crucial to ensure that early years providers are creating a culture of safety that includes the implementation of a recruitment procedure to help eliminate or identify people who might pose a safeguarding or welfare threat. With the launch of the new common inspection framework and its accompanying handbook, 'Inspecting Safeguarding in Early Years', Ofsted must evaluate how well early years settings are fulfilling their statutory safeguarding obligations and keeping children safe.

  This course is delivered by an accredited trainer from the Safer Recruitment Consortium, which is certificated and covers:

  • Safer recruitment and the wider context of safeguarding
  • Prevalence of abuse and profile of abusers
  • How abusers operate within organisations
  • Features of a safer recruitment process
